How We Clean Engine Bays

Clean Engine Bay

Our engine bay cleaning service involves a meticulous process to eliminate accumulated dirt, grime, and contaminants from your vehicle’s engine compartment. Our skilled employees use specialized cleaning agents, brushes, and detailing tools to reach all the nooks and crannies, ensuring a thorough cleaning. We focus on removing built-up grease, oil, dust, and other residues that can accumulate over time. After the cleaning process, we carefully dry the engine bay and apply appropriate dressings or sealants to enhance its appearance and provide a protective barrier against future dirt and grime.

Remove Debris, Leaves and Grime From The Engine

Engine Bay Cleaning

We start by carefully inspecting the engine bay and removing any leaves, grime, or debris that may have accumulated. These usually build up on the front trim of the engine bay. We remove these by hand or with a hose. A common misconception is that people should use pressure washers on their engine bay. This is not the case because although engine bays were made to get wet, the wiring and electrical components were not made to withstand serious pressure. This initial cleaning sets the stage for a more effective and detailed engine bay cleaning process.

Degreasing the Entire Engine Bay/Hood

Engine Bay Degreaser

We use a degreaser to break down the major dust and dirt in the engine bay. Any degreaser will work, however we use super clean degreaser simply because it has proven to be reliable. When using degreaser on an engine bay the key is in the dilution ratio. You want about a 4 to 1 dilution ratio which means 4 parts water 1 part degreaser. You want to be very generous with this degreaser because most engine bays have tons of dust and grime all over. We want to let this degreaser sit for about a minute on the parts of this engine bay. This will help let the degreaser do its job of breaking down the dirty components. This step ensures that even the most hard-to-reach areas are thoroughly cleaned.

Agitate Engine Bay Parts and Wipe Down

After applying the degreaser, we utilize detail brushes and microfiber towels to agitate and clean various engine bay components, such as the car battery, engine, alternator, and plastic covers. We use detail brushes due to their ability to access cracks and crevices effectively. For this task, we use medium bristle brushes as they possess the ideal stiffness to agitate dirt on different surfaces without causing any scratches. This process effectively loosens dirt and grime on surfaces that have already been degreased.

Once the engine bay has been degreased and thoroughly agitated, we wipe down the components with microfiber towels. Before wiping, we may lightly spray certain engine bay parts with a hose to wash off the loosened debris, although this step isn’t always necessary. The key to achieving a presentable engine bay is in thoroughly wiping away the dirt. Without this final step, the engine bay would simply have loose grime scattered all over.

Dress Engine Bay

After the thorough cleaning and wiping down, we apply a high-quality dressing to the engine bay. We use Chemical Guys VRP (Vinyl, Rubber, Plastic) dressing. This premium dressing not only revitalizes the appearance of the engine bay but also nourishes and protects various engine bay components. This dressing is made to be sprayed on and can dry on the surfaces. Besides its cosmetic benefits, Chemical Guys VRP dressing provides vital UV protection, shielding vulnerable engine bay components from harmful sun rays that could cause fading and cracking over time. By dressing your engine bay, we give it a fresh and renewed shine but also safeguard it for the future.

Why is it Important?

Clean Engine Bay

Engine bay cleaning service goes beyond cosmetic improvements and holds practical significance. A clean engine bay makes routine maintenance tasks, such as checking fluid levels, identifying leaks, and inspecting belts and hoses, much easier for you or your mechanic. By removing dirt and debris from the engine compartment, we help reduce the risk of corrosion, which can extend the lifespan of various components and maintain optimal performance. Furthermore, a clean engine bay contributes to better cooling efficiency by allowing air to circulate more effectively around vital engine parts.
